Youth Keynote Feature

Katie McKay-Bryson, AYEA Founding Member

Katie McKay-Bryson is proud to be one of AYEA's co-founders at age 14. Katie helped lead the effort to get the Anchorage School District to ban toxic pesticides in 2000. Through AYEA, she went on to work closely with Alaska Community Action on Toxics for several years. Her undergraduate thesis at Hampshire College (The Myth of Purity: Military Contamination and the Journey to Environmental Justice in Alaska) built off work she did in her teens with both organizations. She is now an AmeriCorps volunteer paralegal in Lowell, Massachusetts, working in a legal-aid organization on issues of housing access and domestic violence.
